Job Description

The purpose of the role is to ensure Asset Management performance in DeBeers will sustainably meet targets and plans. This work involves comprehending and describing the interactions between two or more complexity systems. It is making sure that different systems that interact are designed so that they are compatible with each other and will remain compatible into the future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Group Head of AS&R to develop commodity-specific strategies and to coordinate and monitor strategy and standard implementation at sites across the commodity
  • Support the Commodity Head of Technical to develop commodity-specific strategies and to coordinate and monitor strategy and plan implementation at sites across the commodity. Provide strategic leadership and influence to push the commodity and site budget and performance towards AS&R’s vision and What Good Looks Like.
  • Identify and understand business needs, facilitate Asset Management strategies and plan development for sites. Ensure the asset management plans align to commodity mine plans, operational strategies and identify opportunities stretch targets to deliver “what good looks like” for Asset Management.
  • Provide the Commodity and sites with an integrated view and approach to all AS&R systems, processes and initiatives to drive operational performance.
  • Work with Commodity Head of Technical to improve data quality, interpret scorecard results and develop improvement plans.


  • An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours degree or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline
  • A postgraduate qualification (Masters / Doctoral degree or equivalent) in a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering OR a proven track record of extensive practical experience in a role and context of similar complexity
  • Certification in Asset Management is advantageous
  • Strong track record of defining and leading the application and improvement of asset management across the full life-cycle within a complex, global mining organisation.
  • Strong track record of developing relationships with stakeholders at all levels across multiple entities (Group, Commodity, JV and operations) and using own professional and technical expertise to constructively influence decisions and outcomes.
  • Experience and track record of success in liaising and dealing at senior levels with external stakeholders including JV partners
  • Understanding of the asset management life-cycle
  • Act as a thought leader for technical analysis and support operations and projects globally.
  • Define and embed governance processes for project and resource management.
  • Set best practice process design, control and performance reporting. Ensure group-wide alignment.
  • Drives the effective management of assets including machinery, mobile equipment and infrastructure.
  • Applies an in-depth understanding of the mining value chain to identify and execute on opportunities where technical expertise can enhance business performance.
  • Drives the delivery of technical solutions in projects and operations by demonstrating project management skills and active resource management, including effective control of budgets, deliverables, staff and contracts.
