Amazon Studios is the movies and television development and production arm of Amazon. It is our role to produce original content and license studio programs worldwide in exclusive service of Amazon’s Prime Video customers. We are currently seeking an experienced senior creative executive to work with the Nigeria Originals team. In this London-based position reporting to the Head of Originals for Africa & Middle East, you will have day-to-day oversight of the creation and growth of Amazon Prime Video’s slate of local original content from Nigeria. You will leverage your hands-on development/production experience, high judgment, collaborative spirit, and deep industry knowledge to bring a slate of projects to life to delight Prime Video customers everywhere.

You will create a welcoming “Home for Talent” to include creators and artists who represent the best of Nigeria. You will cultivate talent of all levels and backgrounds and elevate Nigerian voices and stories for the enjoyment of audiences in Nigeria, Africa, and the world. You will ensure that Originals, and the teams working on them, include and reflect Nigeria’s diversity across gender, age, ethnicity/tribal affiliation, class, and more.

You will be joining a dynamic, hands-on, and growing Amazon Studios team, bringing an in-depth knowledge of the Nigerian entertainment landscape to support and advise stakeholders on creative/production workflows and execution strategy. You will work alongside other creative executives based around the world to identify material, attract the best talent, and give creative guidance and feedback to top-level writers and directors on outlines, scripts and cuts, ensuring that we are always raising the bar on storytelling. You will be working in a self-motivated, entrepreneurial, passionate and deeply collaborative environment.

Key job responsibilities

  • Oversee Prime Video’s slate of commissioned Nigerian Originals across series and features (scripted and non-scripted)
  • Act as point of interface for the Nigerian creative community with Amazon
  • Ensure originals meet the Studio’s global bar for excellence in originality and quality
  • Assess proposals and pitches, making recommendations on submissions to enter into development and providing feedback on creative material throughout the production process
  • Provide visibility and feedback to senior leaders contributing to and executing Amazon Prime Video’s overall content strategy for Nigeria and Africa
  • Help hire and mentor a growing team of creative executives
  • Serve as a central point of contact for all Studios stakeholders supporting Nigerian originals (Business Affairs, Production Legal, Physical Production, Post Production, Finance, Customer Insights)

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience overseeing all creative aspects of development, production, and post production at a senior level (Series or Film Producer, Executive Producer, Commissioning Editor or above, or equivalent)
  • Deep knowledge of the Nigerian production landscape, including talent and trends in audience tastes
  • Experience executing a content strategy, and delivering results on that strategy
  • Ability and openness to frequent international travel to and within Nigeria and other parts of Africa (if needed, at short notice)
  • Experience interfacing in the Nigerian market with producers/filmmakers
  • Fluency in English and Nigerian Pidgin

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven creative instincts with successful track record of developing successful TV or film programming from Nigeria for a Nigerian audience
  • Broad network of working relationships with top Nigerian creators, including on and off-screen talent
  • Cross-functional studio experience cultivating internal relationships with other departments such as Business and Legal Affairs, Production, Casting, Research, Public Relations, etc.
  • Excellent business communication and writing skills, with track record of presenting succinct plans and earning buy-in from senior business leaders to support far-reaching initiatives
  • Fluency in one or more indigenous Nigerian languages
