About The Role

Are you an experienced Health & Safety Business Partner? Do you have experience of grounds maintenance, forestry, arboriculture, or allied industries? Then this could be the role for you!

We are currently looking for a Health & Safety Business Partner to join our Green Space team. The Health & Safety Business Partner is responsible for providing the Greenspace Managing Director and Management team with competent Health and Safety advice on a day-to-day basis. You will work with Managing Directors, Managers, and staff across Greenspace and Lampton Group to ensure high standards of Health & Safety management are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • To provide Lampton Services Board with assurance that H&S is effectively managed, reported and with appropriate corrective and preventive action taken.
  • To report the Greenspace health and safety performance to the Lampton Group board to give with assurance that H&S is effectively managed, reported and with appropriate corrective and preventive action taken.
  • To work collaboratively with the Group Head of Health and Safety to develop and deliver a health and safety strategy and then implement that strategy within Greenspace.
  • Work collaboratively with the Managing Directors, Managers, and staff across Greenspace and Lampton Group to ensure high standards of H&S management are maintained.
  • To provide a professional H&S advisory service including sound professional H&S advice on all matters of H&S policy and best practice to staff across Greenspace and associated organisations across all the whole business.
  • To advise Greenspace and associated organisations on complex and technical H&S matters offering pragmatic and practical advice that ensures the most effective solution to be implemented within available budgets.
  • Develop and implement any specific Greenspace H&S policies, procedures and documentation that are not covered by the group H&S system.
  • Develop and implement Greenspace H&S strategy and H&S business plan (reflecting the group strategy and business plan) and deliver activities to schedule.
  • Prepare and present reports to appropriate meetings and committees including the Lampton Services and Lampton 360 Board and members. Ensure reporting is provided as required and that reports are prepared, including identifying where improvements can be made.
  • Manage external relationships between Greenspace, council, agencies, and external contracts.
  • To improve health and safety performance in Greenspace by contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and efficiency.
  • Support achievement of the H&S strategy and H&S business plans through the delivery of agreed actions.
  • Support the development of the Group H&S management system and act as the main point of contact during the consultation activity.
  • To work flexibly across service areas and with partners to achieve the objectives of the company.
  • Support and collaborate with H&S professionals to deliver audits, inspections, training, engagement, adverse event management and risk assessments.
  • Take appropriate actions to ensure compliance and improvement through implementation of SMART approach.
  • To arrange Health surveillance as required and follow up on concerns raised with HR and local management.
  • Implementation of containment actions following the identification of concerns to prevent further loss.
  • Complete regular evaluation of performance including legal compliance, adverse events, audits, and inspection with a focus on trends to support the development of robust corrective and preventive actions.
  • To work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams to enable the breaking down of divisional and departmental barriers and to encourage the concept of both internal and external working.
  • Lead by example by wearing appropriate personal protective clothing/equipment and observing all safety requirements/procedures.
  • Making a positive contribution to managing diversity and inclusion, both as an employer and service provider.
  • Undertake such responsibilities as may be allocated to the post from time to time by the Group Head of Health and Safety and/or the MD and SLT of Greenspace when required.
  • To promote a philosophy of putting customer needs first at every opportunity.

About You

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience and consistent achievement in providing proactive H&S advice to the grounds maintenance, forestry, arboriculture, or allied industries.
  • Experience of reviewing, establishing, and updating H&S policies and procedures.
  • Experience gained in a grounds maintenance, forestry, arboriculture, or allied industries.

Skills And Abilities

  • A good understanding of health and safety legislation, and best practice.
  • Effective negotiating and presentational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills to relate effectively to employees, the management team, trade unions, elected members, and other stakeholders, and command their respect, trust, and confidence.
  • The ability to manage and interpret Health and Safety data to identify trends, root causes and key issues and then propose and deliver effective risk management actions.
  • Demonstrable planning and prioritising skills to ensure results are delivered within the required timescales.

Essential Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent, ideally working towards NEBOSH diploma
  • Grad IOSH
  • Professional audit qualification (ISO45001, ISO9001, ISO50001, ISO14001)
  • Professional H&S qualifications related to the waste, logistics or allied industries

  • Compliance in line with the business H&S performance indicators
  • Management of risk to an acceptable level
  • Delivery of change and other projects in line with agreed timescales
  • Advisory support to Greenspace in line with the service level agreement
  • Feedback from service users
