The AVI Group Procurement department is the custodian of procurement performance and governance for the AVI Group. This department’s role includes responsibility for, inter alia, leading and facilitating sourcing strategies for key spend categories, aggregating and leveraging spend across BU’s for improved pricing, recruiting and developing procurement competence across all BU’s, procurement strategy, policies and procedures, and supplier performance management and development. The overall aim of the department is to ensure procurement within and across all BU’s is contributing significant value to the business, whilst protecting this value and managing risk.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) Procurement Executive at AVI Group Procurement Division in Bryanston, Cape Town. The purpose of the role is for reducing the Total Cost of Ownership of MRO products and services consumed across the AVI group, whilst ensuring continuity of supply and production. The successful incumbent will be expected to deploy advanced procurement processes, techniques and methodologies to optimise supplier and product performance, in the MRO category, to contribute significant and sustainable shareholder value.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Analyses the spend portfolio within the MRO category and identifies, scopes, validates and then executes projects that will result in measurable value to the organisation, based on magnitude of spend, strategic importance and opportunities for value delivery
  • Leads the development and implementation of sourcing strategies and projects for commodities in the MRO category, through liaison and collaboration with BU’s and the formation of cross-functional sourcing teams (CFST)
  • Provides leadership to CFST’s in the deployment of strategic procurement levers and techniques on assigned commodities and projects within the MRO category.
  • Is responsible for delivering and tracking quantifiable financial benefits and ensuring they are delivered onto the bottomline
  • Exhibits subject matter expertise regarding MRO trends so as to advise internal users on current and future market opportunities, and to implement proactive strategies to take advantage of such opportunities
  • Acts as the central point of contact between Procurement and BU’s for all communications related to the MRO category
  • Fosters and manages key supplier relationships to create short- and long-term value for the AVI group. Leads all efforts in educating the appropriate suppliers and internal stakeholders in the principles of Supplier Relationship Management (SRM)
  • Analyses, supports and actively participates in the development and implementation of SRM and B-BBEE development programmes
  • Prepares for and leads key supplier negotiations, drafts contracts and SLAs (Service Level Agreements) and ensures Group Legal approval prior to implementation

Minimum Requirements:


  • At least 7 years’ experience as a Procurement Manager
  • At least 2 years’ experience at an Executive level will be high advantageous
  • More than 5 years’ strategic sourcing and capex procurement experience in industrial MRO spend categories
  • At least 7 years’ procurement experience, of which some must have been in a consulting or heavy industry procurement
  • Experience and industry knowledge in MRO, and related, products and services is essential
  • Prior exposure to category/commodity management, procurement or an engineering or production environment is highly desirable
  • Experience in managing a multi-disciplinary team in a project-type environment will be highly beneficial


  • Matric/Grade 12
  • Completed 3-year bachelor’s degree in procurement, business, finance or engineering field
  • An MBA would be highly advantageous
