SENIOR RESEARCH TECHNICIAN: DATA COLLECTORS – 4 Posts

Duration: One-Year Contract

Positions exits in the following locations and Hospitals:

  • 1. Pretoria – Steve Biko Academic Hospital x 1 post
  • 2. Pretoria – George Mukhari Academic Hospital x 1 post
  • 3. Pretoria – Kalafong Hospital x 1 post
  • 4. Johannesburg – Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital x 1 post

The SAMRC’s HIV and other Infectious Diseases Research Unit (HIDRU) is a large, dynamic research unit conducting HIV, COVID-19 and TB-related research. The Unit aims to contribute towards the body of research about COVID-19 in children in order to get a detailed picture of the effects of COVID-19 on the overall health of children. The Unit seeks to appoint qualified and experienced data collectors to perform project related duties such as, administration of informed consent to study participants, complete study documentation, capture data on electronic data capture systems and assist with various general administrative duties in Gauteng (Steve Biko Academic Hospital, George Mukhari Academic Hospital, Kalafong Hospital and Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital).

Responsibilities

  • Document management as per project requirements for multiple projects, management of assets, filing of documents as per study procedures
  • Recruit and enroll participants and complete consenting procedures as per inclusion/exclusion criteria
  • Complete CRFs and source documents and capture data on electronic data capture systems for example REDCap and other electronic software
  • Retrieve participant medical files and results and extract data
  • Timeous contact with participant for follow up data collection as per protocol
  • Maintain records/logs of data collected and captured
  • Filing of documents as per operating/ study procedures
  • Report writing for example weekly progress reports
  • Conduct quality checks of participant informed consent forms, CRFs and data captured electronically and ensure resolution of data queries timeously

Core Requirements

  • Grade 12 / matric or similar relevant qualification or higher
  • 1-2 years’ experience in health research with at least 6 months experience in paediatric research
  • Experience in working with large datasets and with data collection processes (interview and consent) with at least 6 months experience in paediatric COVID-19 research
  • Experience with data quality review in COVID-19 related paediatric projects.
  • Experience with data capturing including at least 6 months experience in electronic data capturing of paediatric data on REDCap (Mobile/Online Application)
  • Fluency in English and the local languages as indicated below:
  • 1. Steve Biko Academic Hospital: siSwati and Sepedi
  • 2. George Mukhari Academic Hospital: Setswana and Sepedi
  • 3. Kalafong Hospital: Setswana
  • 4. Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital: IsiZulu and isiSotho.

Advantageous

  • 2-5 years research experience with similar levels of competencies as above
  • GCP training
