Job Description:

The Tax Examiner position is responsible for reviewing and processing tax returns, documents, and payments to ensure compliance with state and federal tax laws and regulations. This individual will also be responsible for providing technical assistance to taxpayers and answering inquiries related to tax law and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Reviewing and processing tax returns, documents, and payments
  • Determining tax liability and issuing refunds or billings as necessary
  • Providing technical assistance to taxpayers and answering inquiries related to tax law and procedures
  • Conducting research to interpret tax laws and regulations
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records and documentation
  • Participating in training and professional development opportunities to stay current on tax laws and regulations
  • Performing other related duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in tax preparation or a related field
  • CPA certification preferred
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software and financial reporting tools
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Additional Responsibilities of the Tax Examiner position may include:

  • Assisting with the review and processing of complex tax returns and documents
  • Participating in the development and implementation of tax policies and procedures
  • Providing guidance and assistance to taxpayers on tax planning and compliance matters
  • Handling escalated customer service issues and complaints
  • Assisting with the training and development of junior team members
  • Participating in community outreach and education efforts related to tax law and compliance

The ideal candidate for this position will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. The ability to work effectively under tight deadlines is also essential.

In addition to the qualifications listed above, the successful candidate for this position should possess excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Strong written and verbal communication skills are also important, as the Tax Examiner will be responsible for interacting with various stakeholders within the organization, including taxpayers and other government agencies.
